Roll of HonourThe Chideock Players have 3 awards which are presented to members regularly. The first of these awards was the Herbert Winter Memorial Cup first presented by his widow in 2002. Herbert was an active, talented and much respected member of our group. His wisdom and advice helped many of the players to improve their acting abilities. He served as chair of the committee as well as directing many plays and of course acting. He received the Runner up Award for Best Actor at the Dorset Pantomime Awards for playing the baddy in Aladdin in 1993. The award is presented at the group's AGM and it is award to a member of the group who has worked tirelessly for the good of the group.
The Maggie Imber Plate,
affectionately known as the "Maggie" was first presented by
Maggie's husband, Hayden Wright in Dec 2003. Maggie Imber was a member
of the Chideock Players from 1995 to 2003, her first performance being
in the pantomine Cinderella and her last in Alan Bennett's Habeus Corpus.
Tragically, she died shortly after this play from cancer at the age of
46. Sarah's Shield is also presented on an annual basis and is for the unsung backstage heroes without whom staging a show would be impossible. The shield was first presented in June 2008 by Sarah Burge who donated the shield to the group. Sarah emigrated to New Zealand in 2006 having been a long standing member of the group for over 25 years. She acted for a while but switched to becoming our stage manager for a number of years as well as a member of the committee where she served as secretary and chair.
